Hunt Descriptions

As mentioned in the brochure, Packhorse Creek offers both single species hunts and multi species combination hunts.

For the avid mule deer hunter, the Flathead offers some excellent, early season mule deer hunting in our picturesque alpine environment. In September we offer two ten-day hunts and in October, one ten-day hunt and one seven-day hunt.

Our ten-day bighorn sheep hunt is a combination horseback/backpack hunt along the Continental Divide just north of Waterton Park. We are restricted to harvesting trophy full curl rams.

The Continental Divide is where we also chase the strikingly beautiful mountain goat. It is a ten-day hunt in October after they have grown their winter cape and dropped down into more hunter friendly terrain.

The Flathead is home to an extremely high density of mountain grizzlies. This fourteen-day classic spot and stalk hunt occurs during the spring when the valley awakens in spectacular fashion from the dead of winter. Black Bear and wolf are added as incidentals on this hunt.

We run seven-day spot and stalk black bear hunts in the spring. This is a two bear area and has a high incidence of light coloured bears ranging from chocolate brown to blonde.

The lush riparian habitat of the Flathead is home to a population of Shiras moose. It is late season, ten-day hunt for world-class trophy bulls.

Cougar and lynx hunts are available upon request, and run from November through December.

Due to the diversity of habitat and the species that live in the Flathead River drainage, Packhorse Creek has the flexibility to offer hunts for hunters of all ages and levels of fitness. We all have limitations, so by putting them up front, we can offer hunts that are fun, safe and productive for everyone.

Our primary hunt is a classic ten-day elk hunt during the peak of the rut. From early September through mid October we are fortunate to be able to hunt trophy bull elk, six points or better, with a rifle. We also include wolf and black bear as incidental trophies on this hunt.
